What Can Inmates Use AI For?
Almost anything you'd ask a patient, knowledgeable friend. Through InM8AI, inmates email a question from TRULINCS and get a clear written answer back. Here are the most common uses.
Education
- GED and school study: explain a math problem step by step, quiz on history, or check an essay.
- College courses: break down a hard reading or help organize a paper.
- Learn a trade: basics of electrical work, plumbing, HVAC, welding, or commercial driving.
- Learn a language: practice Spanish, English, or another language with exercises and corrections.
Writing
- Letters to family: find the right words for a hard conversation.
- Resumes and cover letters: build one now so it's ready on release day.
- Creative writing: feedback on poems, stories, and journals.
Preparing for release
- Reentry planning: a checklist for ID, housing, benefits, and jobs.
- Starting a business: write a simple business plan.
- Money basics: budgeting, credit, and opening a bank account.
Everyday questions
- Explaining things: what a word means, how something works, what's happening in the world.
- Health and fitness: general exercise and nutrition information. Medical questions still go to facility medical staff.
What can't inmates use InM8AI for?
InM8AI follows Bureau of Prisons rules. It won't help with:
- Anything that breaks facility rules or the law
- Questions about other inmates or their cases
- Contacting victims, witnesses, or anyone the inmate isn't allowed to contact
- Legal advice on a specific case. InM8AI can explain general terms, but a lawyer is the right source for case advice.
Messages that break these rules may be flagged and shared with the BOP. See our Safety & Compliance page.
